Willamette Humane Society was founded in 1965 by four compassionate women who wanted to end cruelty and neglect of both animals and people in Marion and Polk Counties of Oregon. These amazing women envisioned a more humane community by addressing key issues of their day, filling a painful void, through their leadership, education and action.
Willamette Humane has served more than half a million pet households in its effort to respond to critical animal welfare issues such as pet homelessness, animal abuse/neglect, overpopulation of abandoned, free roaming and feral cats, and families who are no longer able to meet their pet’s needs.
Today, we continue to focus on our vision of a good home for every adoptable dog and cat, financial sustainability for our mission-driven organization and the importance of spay/neuter.
WHS provides a monthly pet food bank, free behavioral helpline, end of life services for aging or ill pets, canine training classes, low-cost spay-neuter sterilization, youth humane education and our most well-known service, emergency shelter and re-homing (adoption).
WHS is funded by community donations, fees and bequests and depends upon our generous supporters, partners, volunteers and trained staff to carry out our Mission.
